As more and more contract manufacturers embrace digital transformation, cybersecurity has emerged as an issue that every precision machining company must take seriously.
Ricaurte Precision Inc. knows just how important cybersecurity is for our customers in the aerospace and defense industries, among others. That’s why we’ve pursued proactive cybersecurity measures and certifications, including CMMC compliance.
Read on for more about why our approach to CMMC compliance has put RPI on the cutting edge and how our broader commitment to cybersecurity sets us apart from the competition.
Why We’re Pursuing CMMC Compliance
The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) is the most recent of the Department of Defense’s (DoD) cybersecurity regulations. To receive certification, organizations must abide by specific guidelines and security measures aimed at protecting Federal Contract Information (FCI) and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) from cybersecurity attacks. Simply put, without CMMC, defense vendors cannot be part of the DoD’s supply chain.
RPI recognized the importance of CMMC early and began taking steps toward compliance well before the regulation went into effect. Because of this, RPI has already achieved CMMC Level 2 compliance and has plans to obtain Level 3 certification by 2025.
While other precision machining companies struggle to meet CMMC compliance guidelines, RPI already guarantees that customers’ information will be protected from the minute they place an order.
RPI’s CMMC Journey
How, exactly, was RPI able to move so quickly to achieve CMMC compliance?
Our CMMC journey started in July 2021, when we began taking steps to the proposed CMMC 2.0 framework. In addition to keeping up with the evolving details of CMMC regulation, we conducted company-wide training to adapt, refine, and protect our use of sensitive information. With buy-in and participation from across our organization, we were able to guarantee that our cybersecurity measures were as sharp as our precision machining know-how.
Of course, this journey wasn’t without its challenges. To meet CMMC standards, it was necessary for us to develop a more comprehensive approach to selecting and ultimately adopting new technologies. In the end, these changes—which involved a renewed culture of learning, improvement, and team dedication—strengthened our overall organizational understanding and management of information.
Our California machine shop intends to remain ahead of the pack with CMMC compliance. We are committed to staying aware of changes to any relevant DoD regulation and adapting our processes, procedures, and best practices alongside our technology partners and precision machining customers.
RPI’s Commitment to Cybersecurity Goes Beyond CMMC Compliance
Here at RPI, we know cybersecurity isn’t just a regulatory necessity—it’s a pillar of our company culture. That’s why we’ve taken additional proactive steps to cybersecurity that complement our commitment to CMMC compliance.
First, we recognize that protecting sensitive data requires measures that go beyond technology use to include a focus on human error. For example, we have strict policies and conduct regular audits aimed at preventing the unauthorized use of USBs and other tools that could lead to breaches.
To similar ends, we also offer our employees continuous education and guidance on self-auditing practices in order to maintain robust, company-wide cybersecurity standards. Initiatives like these empower every member of our precision machining company to continue leading the way for other shops in the industry.
